The members of the Pune Expat Club showcased their interpretation of India at the PEC WOW India Photo & Painting Exhibition on October 1. Most of them are not professional shutterbugs, yet their works create magic. Preeti Devnani brings you some interesting glimpses from 40 exhibits displayed at the do.
Rose Smith (England): Though we shifted to India only three years ago, my husband and I would come every Christmas to India for holidays to escape the winters. This pic was taken 11 years ago in Goa by camera using a roll. These local kids used to sell peanuts on the beach and their smiles caught fancy.
They did not have the easiest life but they were so happy, much happier than children who have all the luxuries m the world. That’s why I have kept this picture safe for so long as it teaches me a lot.
Susana Hermann (Brazil): I moved to India 18 months ago because of my husband’s job at HSBC. I took this picture while walking around during the Palkhi time. The man’s expression says that he hasn’t had an easy life but yet his eyes are full of so much faith. His bright turban is also so interesting.
Simone Schmid (Germany):
I moved to Pun, I saw this picture on the internet and tried capturing it on canvas. I liked the look of this man and found his turban quite fascinating.
Kumari (California, United States):
I moved to India three years ago and adopted an Indian name as my artist name. My painting is called Heart Smile because that’s the element I feel India has taught me – to smile from the heart. When Indians smile, they smile from the heart and you can feel the purity of it.
Klara Danova (Slovakia):
I shifted to Pune 3 months ago as my partner is the Indian chief at the Hyatt which is soon to open here. When we went to Delhi during his training, I decided to explore the city and I took this picture at the Qu- tub Minar’s Quwwat-ul-Islam mosque. The picture for me represents the emotion I felt while standing right there admiring it. I was overwhelmed with peace and tranquility.
Lioyd Lauland Executive Director India, JHM Interstate (Louisiana, United States):
I moved to India two years and I’ve been in and out of Pune because we’re setting up Hotel Four Points by Sheraton on Nagar Road. I was in Shimla a year ago on a business trip. There I was just walking around on the streets when I noticed a group of performers who were a part of a folk dance competition. Among them, I noticed this beautiful lady who reflected every bit of the beauty India stands for. I didn’t know English and in sign language asked her to pose for a pic for me and she obliged.
Simone Hesse (right) with her daughter Sarah (German):
I moved to India two months ago because of my husband’s work. I love this picture as it captures my daughter enjoying our first Indian monsoon. It rains much harder in India than back home and we enjoyed every raindrop of it.
