China Work Visa Guide by Lex Visas

TYPES OF WORK VISAS / WORK PERMITS IN CHINA

China operates a two-step system: a Z-Visa for entry and a Work Permit + Residence Permit after arrival.

  1. Z Visa:

Issued to foreign nationals entering China for employment. It allows a single entry and must be converted into a residence permit within 30 days of arrival.

  2. Foreigner’s Work Permit:

Issued after arrival and categorized under China’s talent classification system (Category A, B, C). It determines eligibility and duration.

  3. Resident Permit for Work:

Replaces the Z-visa after entry and allows multiple entries during validity.
